We will be upgrading Tellor Palmito Testnet around 9:00 AM EST on Friday, Jan 9th!
This upgrade significantly refines how time-based inflationary rewards (TBR) are distributed to reporters, creating stronger incentives for consistent, full-coverage reporting across all cycle list queries.
Core Changes
- Distribution timing – Rewards now accumulate over a configurable period (via governance parameter LivenessCycles) and are distributed once at the end — rather than paying out per individual aggregate.
- Reward basis Your reward is based on your proportional contribution inside each aggregate you reported on (your power ÷ total power in that aggregate), summed across all your participations.
- Equal slot weighting + special bridge handling
- Normal cycle list queries each get their own equal “slot” of the total TBR pool
- All bridge deposit reports (TRB Bridge) in the period share only one single slot — preventing high bridge activity from overwhelming normal price feed rewards
- Out-of-turn tips Extra reporting opportunities (from tips outside normal rotation) are automatically tracked:
- More opportunities for a query = Each one is worth less (natural dilution)
- Full participation across all opportunities = Full credit
- Missing some → partial credit (vs zero) = Encourages reporters to stay active on everything without extreme punishment for occasional misses, and prevents spam dilution attacks
Previously, rewards mostly rewarded basic presence; easy to be selective or convenient. Now, the system strongly favors reporters who reliably participate in every expected cycle list query — and reasonably handle extra tipped requests — because missing reports directly reduces your share of the total reward pool.
This upgrade makes Time-Based Rewards(TBR) a cleaner, more precise tool for maintaining network liveness and data coverage while remaining much harder to game.
Other notable changes with this release:
- Chain data optimizations
- Reporter liveness query
- Extra rewards rate query
- Auto-unbonding for reporters (reporterd)
- Better failsafes for reporters (reporterd)
