2023 Year In Review

Overview

2023 kicked off with a bang! Riding on the wave of excitement from our late-2022 achievements, including the launch of Tellor 360 and our integration with Liquity, we hit the ground running. We revamped our documentation to be more user-friendly, anticipating a surge in interest. Our journey this year wasn’t just about expanding our user base and exploring new chains; it was about strengthening our community, even in the face of a bear market. But the real highlight? The birth of Tellor Layer – a game-changing oracle chain and a new chapter in the Tellor saga.

Integrations and deployments

We’ve been busy bees! This year we saw notable user integrations with projects like Raft, Ethos, Reflexer, DIVA, Alternity, and Tai and deployed Tellor to several new chains; Gnosis Chain, Arbitrum, Optimism, Filecoin’s FVM, Manta Pacific, and Base.

Tellor Layer

The big news: In September, we rolled up our sleeves to start building Tellor Layer. This standalone chain, crafted with Cosmos SDK and CometBFT, represents a leap forward in oracle technology – think faster, more secure, and super interoperable. We’re ending 2023 with significant progress, and 2024 is looking even more exciting.

Tooling

Tools are cool: In parallel with our integration efforts we took some major steps to enhance our Tooling that supports both the reporting and consumption of Tellor oracle data. Among these tools are the Disputable Values Monitor (DVM) with an addition of auto-dispute functionality, custom Open-Zeppelin Defenders to receive key notifications in a discord server, and an auto-Tipper. We’ve also developed a custom tipper to greatly improve efficiency and readiness for Liquity-based protocols. We also published a series of guides for using our reporter CLI, Telliot, and related tools.

New Data Specifications and Registry

Dataspecs evolution: In 2024, we introduced EVMCall, enabling a decentralized network of reporters to transfer call data between EVM chains. Historically, data specification documents, like those for EVMCall and the rest, have been hosted on GitHub. While this platform has sufficiently enabled stakeholders to reference specifications as needed, it has also placed the source of this soft consensus partially under the control of both GitHub and the Tellor organization. To further decentralize the source of this consensus, the Tellor team developed an on-chain registry.

Events and outreach

We’ve been everywhere: Whether sponsoring and/or speaking we’ve had a presence at many of the marquee industry events such as: Eth Denver, Defi Philly, Edcon, EthPrague, Polkadot Decoded, EthCC, Blockchain Oracle Summit, Dappcon, Funding the Commons, Cosmoverse, and Devconnect. Additionally we supported our friends at Encode club, providing oracle best practices workshops for their entire year of bootcamps to over 2000 students.

Dan, our rising star: From intern to junior developer, Dan’s journey has been incredible. His enthusiasm and quick learning are infectious, and we can’t wait to see his growth in 2024.
